The Mental Side of an Injury
My first major injury was an ankle sprain during my school basketball season, which put me out for around 2 months. Although it was hard to physically return from the injury to the player I was before, the real challenge was staying mentally strong and positive throughout the recovery process. Aside from being unable to play basketball, I couldn’t go anywhere besides my house and school, which affected my social life because I was on crutches that were challenging to move on. In my experience, the mental side of an injury is usually neglected even though, in my opinion, the mental side can be more important than the physical side.
If you are struggling mentally while recovering from an injury, I strongly recommend talking to a guardian, sibling, friend, or a medical professional about what you are experiencing.
